Effective leadership allows employees to concentrate on doing what they do best to produce desired results.

During my time as a union steward, I’ve developed skills that helped me become an effective leader.

Developing these skills came through trial, error, pain and a whole lot of embarrassment.

But through all of the strife came immutable skills that I utilize in the present day.

As abstract as leadership can be, you have to be able to apply practical skills that pull your vision together.

You have to use tangible methods while taking into consideration the intangibles of human nature to execute your goals.

It’s important to remember that leaders are responsible for:

  • Motivation
  • Coaching
  • Guidance and alignment
  • Focussing on the big picture for long-term development of the organization

When a leader is truly effective in the aforementioned areas, employees can focus solely on their roles.

Effective leadership allows employees to concentrate on doing what they do best to produce desired results.

And in doing so, they can thrive.

But hopefully you won’t have to go through the things I went through to learn these skills.
